What inspired you to join the team here? I have always been passionate about learning, and I saw that the team shared my passion and gave me the opportunity to learn and participate in projects that have broadened my skills.
What do you think makes our team culture unique? We are a group that cares about helping others, to provide them with the tools to continue growing professionally while we are at it. We find in diversity an extra value that can offer different perspectives to face the projects in which we work.
What is the best advice you could give to a brand-new employee? Be open to learning and do not be afraid to ask questions. Be prepared for a changing and dynamic environment that is full of learning and growth.
What is one thing that you wish people knew about your job or industry? I am Colombian and in my country, mining has a bad reputation due to certain negative experiences. I would like people to know that sustainable mining is a great engine of the economy and that it can bring development and growth to areas far from the big cities, which is something that is necessary to have more equity.
When did you first know that you wanted to pursue a career in this field? I have always wanted to work in the engineering field and be able to help support projects where I can learn.
What do you love most about your job? The work team; we are kind and respectful people who help each other. There is always laughter and good times in the office, and this makes the work very pleasant.
What piece of advice would you give to your younger self? It is a piece of advice I would give to myself from the past and the present, and that is: trust the process, everyone has their own time and should not be compared to other people. Keep taking challenges that with determination you will continue to overcome.
What would your perfect weekend look like? My perfect weekend is to be able to go to the beach with my friends on a sunny day and then go for drinks in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day talking and laughing.
What do you like to do outside of work? I love cooking, for me it is an activity that disconnects me from everything and is almost a ritual. I like to do it alone and try new recipes.
What is your favorite local spot to eat / drink? I like to go to the Charlatan on Commercial Drive in Vancouver, BC. It has good beers and I go almost every Wednesday for a drink to do something different and make the week shorter.
What would be your dream job (that isn’t this one!)? I would love to work as a mechanical engineer in something related to renewable energies.
If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be? Berlin
If you could pick any superpower, what would it be and why? Flying, to visit my family and friends every time I want.
