Coeur Alaska’s Kensington mine is an underground gold operation located in southeast Alaska, consisting of the Kensington Main deposit, Raven deposit, and other nearby deposits and exploration targets. The Kensington mine is housed in the historic Berners Bay Mining District which has seen over 130 years of resource development. The Kensington mine is located 45 miles north-northwest of Juneau and 35 miles south-southeast of Haines.

Giffen was engaged to provide 3D Laser Scanning services that prioritize the following main areas across the mine site:

  • Kensington Mine Assay Lab
  • Crushing Area
  • Mill
  • Water Treatment Plant (WTP)
  • Tailings Treatment Facility (TTF)
  • Paste Plant

Giffen captured over 400 scans across the site and provided post-scan processing at Giffen’s home office. Giffen used the scans to create large-format 3D models in Plant3D. The client can now use a 3D model of their facilities to assist in overall capital project planning, maintenance programs, and asset management.
