Project Overview.
The Valentine Gold Project is a greenfield open pit gold mine in central Newfoundland. The mine is 100% owned by Calibre Mining Corp. (Calibre), following the acquisition of Marathon Gold Corp. in 2023. Mining is scheduled to start in 2025 and once construction is complete, it will be the largest gold mine in Atlantic Canada.
In 2021, Technical Management Group (TMG) partnered with Giffen to provide Owner’s team engineering services. TMG and Giffen deployed a team of experienced engineers to serve as part of the Owner’s team. Their responsibilities included validating and reviewing engineering deliverables provided by the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) contractor. This encompassed a wide range of critical documentation, such as Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and instrumentation Diagrams, General Arrangement drawings, 3D models, discipline design criteria, technical specifications, and commercial procurement packages.
Giffen remains on the project acting as Engineering Managers for all site infrastructure and working with newly hired site to during the transition from construction to operations.
