Newcrest Mining Ltd. (now Newmont Corp.) requested Giffen to perform detailed engineering design for a Mill Clarifier installation at the Red Chris Mine.

Newmont requested the design and integration of a new Mill Clarifier, pumps, and ancillary equipment. Giffen utilized a diverse team of structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation engineers and designers to complete the multidisciplinary scope of work. The team conducted hazard, operability & maintainability reviews to support the installation in the ongoing operation.

The purpose of the Mill Clarifier is to improve water quality particularly during the harsh winter months. Treated water produced by the clarifier is designed to gravity flow to a treated water storage tank and then pumped to an existing filtered water tank. The discharged water will be used for fire suppression of a new warehouse, mixing with reagents, and to supply gland water for existing pumps.

Red Chris Mine is an open pit mine and processing facility located about 80 km south of Dease Lake, BC and is a joint venture between Newcrest and Imperial Metals.
